![]() This year, Arkansas State University - Campus Querétaro - will participate in the 24th edition of the Verano de la Ciencia de la Región Centro for the first time. Undergraduate students, Alfredo Mendoza Mendoza from Universidad Politécnica de San Luis Potosí, and Kenya Villanueva García from Instituto Tecnológico de Celaya, will be visiting us to work on projects. At the same time, ASUCQ undergraduate students Javier Aguirre González and Natalia Estrada Hernández will be visiting Universidad Politécnica de Querétaro and Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, respectively. In addition, undergraduate students Edna Arciga Contreras, Miren Ugarte Maldonado, Diego Aznar Cruz, Pablo Torres Campos, and Ximena Zamora Prieto will work on internal projects with ASUCQ professors.

The International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition is a worldwide synthetic biology competition that was initially aimed at undergraduate university students, but has since expanded to include divisions for high school students, entrepreneurs, and community laboratories.
In 2021 a new format of the competition was launched: iGEM Design League, specifically aimed at Latin America. This year, Arkansas State University - Campus Querétaro - has entered the iGEM Design League competition for the first time. Our team consists of recently-graduated alumni and undergraduate students. The competition kick-off took place on June 25th and will end by late November / early December. Congratulations to our undergraduate student Daniel Castañeda Ruan for winning the STEM Science Fair 2022, with his poster: “Preliminary Floristic Inventory of Arkansas State University Campus in Queretaro, Mexico.” For this work, he did field work, data collection and classification of species in and around our campus.
Congratulations to Professor Yuriria Pérez Vigueras for completing her second master’s degree in Human Rights and Democracy. Today, Professor Pérez successfully defended her thesis titled “Construction of symbolic structures that replicate and perpetuate gender violence against women. Analysis of news stories about femicide in Mexico and the conversations generated around them in Facebook users.”

Congratulations to our alumni Ximena Vargas, Wendy Mandujano, Isaac Augusto Reyes, and Luisa Fernanda González who participated in the "SOMIXXXV y 1er Simposio Nacional de Biosensores" with the project: Biosíntesis de nanopartículas de plata (AgNPs) y su uso potencial como alternativa a métodos convencionales de síntesis. The project was supervised by MSc. Bárbara González and Dr. Fermando Belmont.
